The Bench Shop
1959-2026
There once was a time, believe it or not,
When it was illegal to grow or sell pot.
Folks went underground but these shops did pop up.
And they sold all the things you'd need to smoke up.
FOR TOBACCO ONLY
(signs were displayed)
Lest anyone think they weren't being played.
Pieces of glass and of clay and of wood,
(those flipped in two and were really quite good)
And Tie-dyes and gemstones and Costumes oh my!
And incense and jewelry were things you could buy.
These places were called Shops for the Head.
A head shop was one stop and then off to Bed..
Head shops were quirky, they had a cool vibe.
Where heads were expanding and learning to thrive.
The Bench Shop was here, in this very spot
and here is a video,
an homage,
a bon mot.
